This week the X-Factor begins its semi-finals with the final 4 contestants – Chris Rene, Marcus Canty, Melanie Amaro, and Josh Krajcik. The first season of the talent show has had plenty of drama, but mainly pointed towards the judges and not the contestants.
In the last episode, 13-year old Rachel Crow was eliminated after Nicole Sherzinger forced a tie vote between Crow and Canty. This led the competition to deadlock allowing the voters (rather than the judges) to decide the outcome of the elimination. Of course, the voters eliminated Crow which led to Sherzinger receiving many death threats and being harassed by fans (of Crow) using social networks Facebook and Twitter.
Since the judges seem to be receiving most of the fan attention this season, I decided to ask the Tarot how the judges are currently feeling about this and X-Factor.
Simon Cowell: 5 of Wands Reversed
Although this card is usually known as strife when it appears upright in a reading, it means “inner conflict” when reversed. Simon Cowell really hyped this show and before the show premiered he stated that he would be disappointed if it did not exceed the viewers of American Idol. X-Factor premiered with a listener audience of 14 Million – much lower than American Idol – but still highly successful. My feeling is that Simon will have to deal with how to position this show in Season 2 to bring in additional viewers. This may resolve on its own if American Idol’s new season numbers are on the decline as well.
Paula Abdul: Ace of Wands
After Paula’s last reality failure “Love to Dance,” the former songstress and judge of American Idol sees X-Factor as a new opportunity for her. Although she still has words and conflict with Simon Cowell, it appears that she feels much more at ease with this show than she did the last season she was on American Idol. If Paula is smart, she will use this as a platform to come back musically like Jennifer Lopez brilliantly did last season on Idol.
Nicole Sherzinger: 8 of Cups Reversed
Sherzinger was heavily lobbied by Cowell to join X-Factor, but it seems like there is enormous tension on the show between the two. Normally the 8 of Cups would mean doing inner inventory and walking away from a situation – which would not bode well for Nicole Season 2, but the 8 of Cups reversed could mean that she is going to stick it out.
L.A. Reid: 6 of Cups
There is a strong machismo edge between Cowell and Reid. I suppose both of them are power brokers in their own right, and probably feel enormous necessity to show which “disc” is bigger. I pulled the 6 of Cups for LA Reid. This card means nostalgia of the past, and I feel that L.A. Reid feels like he is going back to his roots as a talent scout. He is definitely enjoying his role as mentor of the boys.
X-Factor the Show: Ace of Pentacles
Although the show is not doing as well as the last season of American Idol, the show is still doing well ratings wise. The Ace of Pentacles is one of the most positive cards in the tarot, and reflects that this is another financial success for Fox. Expect X-Factor to remain around many seasons to come.
